Choosing the right outfit for air travel has a great impact on flight comfort, our safety and even the efficiency of passing through security control. Although there is no official dress code for passengers, it is worth choosing clothes that will be both practical and comfortable. Below is a list of clothes and accessories that are better to avoid when traveling by air.

What clothes do not wear to the plane

  • Very tight jeans or other fitted trousers that can cause discomfort during many hours of sitting
  • Clothing with metal components, large buckles, metal components that can activate safety gates and require additional control
  • Corset or very tight tops – limit free breathing, which in a low pressure environment can be particularly uncomfortable
  • Too light clothes, even during summer in the cabin can be cold due to the operation of air conditioning
  • Very thick, unsuitable for the season sweaters or jackets that take up a lot of space and can cause the body to overheat
  • Synthetic airtight materials that can cause excessive sweating and discomfort
  • Clothing with flammable materials – in an emergency they may constitute an additional threat
  • Clothes with lots of pockets – although they seem practical, they can make it difficult to find documents or a phone quickly
  • Loose scarves or scarves – can catch on elements of a chair or hand luggage

Instead, it is worth choosing a layered, loose clothing made of natural, breathable materials, which will provide freedom of movement and the ability to adapt to the changing temperature on board. That is, a comfortable tracksuit, a cotton t-shirt + sweatshirt or sweater, a minimum amount of jewelry and metal accessories.

Footwear

Choosing the right footwear is important not only for our comfort, but also for safety reasons. What shoes do not wear on the plane:

  • High heels that can hinder emergency evacuation and are uncomfortable when walking long distances through terminals
  • Flip-flops and sandals without straps – easy to lose, and in an emergency do not provide adequate protection
  • New, inextensible shoes – can cause abrasions and discomfort, especially since the feet tend to swell during flight
  • Boots or high laced shoes that are uncomfortable during security checks when you need to quickly remove and put on

The best choice is comfortable, full sports shoes or sliding shoes that are easy to remove during security checks and that will provide comfort throughout the journey.

Additives – to avoid

Remember that some add-ons can make it significantly difficult for us to pass through security checks or pose a threat during flight. These are:

  • Large, massive jewelry – can trigger alarm when passing through security gates
  • Straps with large metal buckles – they have to be removed during inspection, which extends the entire clearance process
  • Hats with metal components – also can activate safety gates

It is also worth remembering not to use intensive perfumes or other cosmetics with strong smells while preparing for the flight.

Additional tips for travelers

If you are going on a flight, it is always worth having a warmer overwrap or a light blanket with you, even when flying in the summer. Remember also to wear comfortable clothes also in case of connecting flights or potential delays. If you are flying directly to an important business meeting, consider packing a formal outfit for your hand luggage and changing on site.

Properly selected airplane outfit is not only a matter of convenience, but also safety and efficient passing through airport procedures. Following the above tips, we can ensure a more pleasant and comfortable journey, without unnecessary stress related to safety control or discomfort during the flight.
