During our trip we certainly cannot miss the capital city of Helsinki. The city is beautifully situated on the Gulf of Finland, which has its own unique character. When it comes to the development of Helsinki, it refers to the style of the Russian city of St. Petersburg. Among the most important monuments of this city are the Presidential Palace and the Great Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas. The city offers many cultural and art attractions, such as the National Museum of Finland; Helsinki City Museum; Finnish Art Gallery, with exhibits of classical and contemporary art. The Uspensky Cathedral is also worth visiting. It is the largest Orthodox church in Western Europe with a characteristic red brick facade and gold domes. The interior delights with the richness of icons or magnificent frescoes, creating a unique atmosphere that takes visitors into the world of Eastern Orthodoxy.

Finland is not only Helsinki, but also other attractions. For fans of defense architecture, the massive Baltic Suomenlinna Fortress is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is one of the largest fortifications in Europe, built in the 18th century by Swedes to protect against Russian expansion. Today, it is a popular tourist and recreational attraction, where you can admire not only historical fortifications, defensive walls and tunnels, but also enjoy picturesque views of the Gulf of Finland and discover numerous museums, galleries and restaurants.

A great attraction of this country is the place associated with Santa Claus, a town of Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland. It is here that you can meet Santa all year round visit his postal office full of letters from children from all over the world and cross the famous Polar Circle. This magical place attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year who want to admire the phenomenal aurora borealis in winter and enjoy other attractions, such as rides with reindeer sleds or dog sleds. If you are on a tour of Finland, you should definitely stop here for a while.

Lakes are certainly a big attraction of this country. There are several hundred of them, the most famous being Lake Nasi. It is an ideal place both for a holiday and for anglers ;-). On its shores, you can also use one of the symbols of Finland, which is a Finnish steam room.

Next is the Åland Islands of Aland, an archipelago where Swedish is spoken, and Finland owns it. The region is famous for its picturesque landscapes, sailing, red granite rocks, traditional Åland bread, its own postage stamps and medieval Kastelholm Castle. Åland consists of several large islands and almost 10 000 smaller ones.

During our trip, it is worth going to Hämeenlinna, (in Swedish Tavastehus), located on Lake Vanajavesi. It is one of the oldest towns in Finland, known primarily for its medieval Häme Castle and its impressive fortress, which is one of the best preserved of its kind in northern Europe.

And to the village of Jyväskylä (Jyvaskyla) founded by Tsar Nicholas I in 1837. Jyväskylä lies on the northern shore of Lake Jyväsjärvi, which is connected to Lake Päijänne, the second largest lake in Finland and deepest in the south. The town is characterized by a mixture of old wooden houses and modern stone buildings.

If you are going to Finland from September to the end of March, you must see the Northern Lights. The best place to admire it is Lapland. Sometimes, however, the lights of the aurorae can be seen even in the southern regions of the country.
