Do you know a country in Europe that abounds in forests, colorful meadows and lakes full of fish? A country with kilometers of wild, not necessarily hot beaches, well-developed infrastructure, excellent roads and numerous tourist attractions even in the smallest towns? If not, I invite you to discover the beauty of northern Sweden!

Prepare yourself then for an unforgettable adventure in unspoiled nature, visiting picturesque towns and an active holiday. Here is my suggestion…

Departure – Rostock (Germany) – Trelleborg (Sweden)

Our journey begins in Rostock, Germany. We can reach Germany by car on free motorways.  From Rostock, we set off on a cruise aboard comfortable ferries belonging to Stena Line to the Swedish port of Trelleborg. Here is a link to your current calls ( https://www.stenaline.de/routen/rostock-trelleborg). A minimum of 60 minutes before the planned departure of the vessel shall be present on the ferry. The cruise takes about 6 hours to Trelleborg. In the case of a ferry crossing by car, you should drive directly to the check-in boxes with your booking. On board the Steny Line ferry we have many attractions. We can use bars, duty free shops, and on evening cruises from a disco combined with karaoke. And so after about 6 hours of rest and relaxation we can start our Swedish adventure. From the deck of the ferry you can see characteristic houses in the distance. It is a centuries-old Scandinavian tradition that is exceptionally nurtured by the residents.  The sight of these charming houses really impressed us ; -)

What is worth knowing when going to Sweden?

When going to Sweden, it is worth getting acquainted with the local regulations. The vast majority of roads in Sweden are free of charge. The exception are the access roads to the largest cities, e.g. Stockholm. We also have to take into account paid parking zones in cities. It is also worth mentioning fuel. At petrol stations, there is a payment machine at the distributors that blocks a selected value of fuel before refueling. It is worth having a credit card with you, because it happens that debit cards are rejected.  At the stations you will also find drinking water supply stations. After replenishing fuel and water supplies, you can continue your journey… at the prescribed speed. It is worth observing the local regulations to avoid a ticket or loss of a driving license.  That’s why it’s not worth the risk. However, there are more reasons for a careful, prescription driving. Sweden is famous for its large wildlife population. It is not difficult to meet a moose or even a reindeer here.

Where is it worth spending the night?

Sweden is safe and friendly for motorists, and the Allemansrätten, the right of all people, applies here.  We have the right to stay for one night practically everywhere outside the city, even if it is private area. We often find roofed places, and even houses equipped with hearth, wood and a lighter at the disposal of every tourist. Simple and friendly conditions for campers.

Sweden is also a paradise for anglers! For fishing we only need a personal license, which we will buy at a local petrol station and even in a village shop. Together with the fishing license, we will receive a map with marked areas, because some reservoirs are private and fishing is prohibited there. There is also something for nature lovers. Walk through the local forests full of berries and mushrooms.

If we head north, we must remember that this is a more “wild” area with a large number of animals and unspoiled areas. We have less access to fuel stations here, so it is worth to stock up criminals with fuel.

When is the best time to go to Sweden?

The perfect time to go to Sweden is months from May to September. A summer day lasts here for a really long time, even in the southern part of the country. The sunset will arrive after 10 p.m., so we have a lot of time to relax. During our trip, it is also worth finding a moment to shop in local grocery stores, which offer Swedish delicacies, from which I recommend a great Marabou chocolate.

I hope that although some of our readers have encouraged us to visit Sweden and I am sure that everyone who comes here will certainly come back again ; ) This country has a lot to offer, especially to those who want to escape the daily noise!
