However, flight attendants and aviation safety experts constantly remind us that this is one of the biggest—and most dangerous—mistakes travelers make.

A Plane Isn’t a Bus—It Brakes Differently

A lot of travelers assume that since the plane is on the ground, the hard part is over and it’s safe to stand in the aisle. That’s a mistake. After landing, the aircraft is still moving at a high speed as it taxis to the gate, and it can slam on the brakes or make a sharp turn at any second.

Because planes are so massive, even a slight jolt can easily make you lose your balance, fall over, and get seriously hurt. On top of that, opening the overhead bins at this point means a heavy suitcase could slide out and drop right onto someone’s head.

Rushing Gets You Nowhere

Standing in a cramped aisle with a heavy bag on your shoulder isn’t just unsafe—it’s completely pointless. Once the plane stops, it still takes time for the ground crew to set up the stairs or the jet bridge, and for the flight attendants to open the doors. Getting up the moment the plane touches down won’t get you off any faster; it just stresses everyone else out.

What to Do If You’re Really Short on Time

The “fasten seatbelt” sign stays on for a reason—it only goes off once the plane is safely parked and the pilots shut down the engines.

If you have a tight connection and you’re worried about missing your next flight, standing in the aisle won’t help you. Instead, it’s much better to let a flight attendant know before landing. The crew can often move you closer to the exit or ask the rest of the passengers to let people with tight connections off the plane first.

For many passengers, it’s pretty much a ritual: the second the wheels hit the runway, you hear the clicks…

[32

post-2066","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-practical-info
["GET
