Here are 5 ways to do cheap camping

One of the best ways to travel around Scandinavia is by camper! We decide when and where we want to go. To the fullest happiness, motorhome supporters would only wish for low fuel prices. But does Scandinavia have to be expensive? Here are 5 of our tricks for cheap camping!

Sleep in Sweden

Rule number one night in Swedish. When deciding to travel by motorhome, we decide for ourselves where we want to go. We are not limited by the dates of flights, train departure or hotel reservation. In order to reduce the cost of accommodation to zero, we can use the allemansrätten right we have in Norway and Sweden, which allows us to set up a camping site in almost any place, the so-called wild camping (remember that this applies to the setting up of a tent, not parking the camper itself).

Cook by yourself

Unfortunately, wherever we go, we have to spend a large part of our holiday budget on food. When riding a motorhome, it is worth taking advantage of the place and making supplies of dry products – which will not break down, and during the trip we will need to buy it. This does not mean that we should not try local cuisine, but limit it so that it does not become too heavy a burden for the wallet. For avid anglers, it is worth mentioning that some Swedish fisheries do not require a card or permit – so you can catch a fish for dinner ; -)

The best attractions are free

Although Scandinavia is not a cheap place, what is best in it is for free! The first is Swedish motorways, maintained to a very high standard, well lit and most importantly completely free!
Traveling around Norway and Sweden, the aforementioned law of allemansrätten guarantees free access to the wonders of nature. So, you can freely use forests, mountain trails, climbing over cliffs, rivers and lakes, while, of course, respecting the local nature!
When it comes to free city tours, in Oslo we can see for free exhibitions of the National Museum with Munch’s “Scream”, Storting, as well as the Oslo’s Rådhus Town Hall, where Nobel Prizes are awarded.
While in Stockholm, you can visit the Museum of Medieval Stockholm free of charge or admire the charms of the islands of Riddarholmen
It is worth remembering that when buying dedicated tourist cards in large cities, most attractions and urban transport will be included in its price.

Check the status of the motorhome before departure

When going on a motorhome trip, remember to check its technical condition, the condition of tires and all liquids before leaving. Any fault can unfortunately cost us a lot.

The perfect way to save money on campers is, of course, to take advantage of numerous discounts. If we decide to go on a ferry cruise, it is worth looking for promotions. If you want to explore larger cities and travel by city transport, think about buying tourist cards.
