If you\u2019re looking for a trip that makes you feel like you\u2019re at the edge of the world, Heligoland<\/a> is a great choice! It\u2019s a tiny island in the North Sea that looks nothing like the rest of Germany. There are no cars, the air is super fresh, and life just moves at a slower pace here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting there<\/strong>
Most people visit Heligoland on a day trip. You can get there on a modern, high-speed catamaran (it takes about 2 to 2.5 hours) or a traditional ferry. The boat ride itself is half the fun\u2014there\u2019s a great vibe when you\u2019re out on the open sea watching the coastline fade away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The red cliffs and \u201cLange Anna\u201d<\/strong>
As soon as you step off the boat, you\u2019ll see the massive red cliffs that the island is famous for. The best thing to do is take the walking path around the upper part of the island, known as the Oberland. This trail leads you to the iconic “Lange Anna”\u2014a tall, red rock stack sticking straight out of the ocean. It looks incredible, especially with thousands of seabirds circling above. It\u2019s the perfect spot for photos!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meeting the seals<\/strong>
This is a must-do. Right next to the main island is a smaller, sandy one called D\u00fcne. You can hop on a tiny shuttle boat and get there in just a few minutes. What\u2019s waiting for you? Beautiful white beaches and… seals!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Groups of common seals and grey seals just lounge around on the sand. They\u2019re used to people, so you can watch them from fairly close (just make sure to keep a respectful distance!). Seeing these animals in the wild instead of a zoo is an amazing experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Duty-Free shopping<\/strong>
